I’m glad Mats didn’t waive his no-trade clause. I’m angry that Toronto even asked him too in the first place. I don’t believe that a no-trade clause is something that should just be waived when the team feels it’s the best move. Toronto offered him the no-trade clause for a reason: He is too good of a player to risk losing to another team. Just because you’re in the basement now doesn’t mean you should just try to get rid of your leading scorer to bring in someone else to “fill his shoes”.
Although, I guess it’s likely that Mats will retire at the end of the year because he wants to end his career with Toronto and I don’t know if I can see them resigning him after asking him to waive the no-trade clause. Hopefully this won’t be the case because I’d love to see him in the league as a Maple Leaf for a few more years. Too bad the Stars have too many centers (thanks Doug) because I wouldn’t mind having him on our team.
