Since this is the first game of the season I’m actually going to be able to watch, I’m going to try and do a liveblog of the game tonight. My homework situation is pretty manageable, and I go home tomorrow (yay!) so my night should be able to revolve around hockey.
My pick to score tonight is Phillippe Boucher. It’d be great to see him get another one of those amazing power play goals he was so good at two seasons ago. Plus the power play has been terrible the first two games; it could use a nice shock.
Jason Arnott probably won’t be playing tonight since he hurt his hand in their game Monday night against Chicago. I still really like Jason, but I’m glad he won’t be playing tonight.
And I’m always hopeful someone will take out Avery.
The liveblog is after the jump 🙂
Brunnstrom will be in the game tonight. Otter is out with some sort of undisclosed injury, so he opens up a roster spot. Jason Arnott is out with a hurt finger, so most of Trashville’s offense is out of the game tonight. I miss Arnott, but I’m glad he got what he wanted. There really wasn’t any way he was going to get the first line center job in Dallas. He and Brenden did play AWFULLY well together though.
The first period is finally starting! I’m so ready to watch my first Stars game of the season. I have my room all set up for the maximum amount of hockey watching. The TV is turned towards my computer desk, blog up on one monitor, and the Montreal game is on my other monitor! It’s so nice to see the inside of the AAC. It has been way too long.
20:00 – Seeing Dan Ellis in goal for Trashville is nice. I always like when our young guys do well, even if it’s with someone else. I wish we could score some on him though. Neal is out with Crombeen and Modano.
I REALLY don’t like FSN’s new way of showing the scores. I’m a big fan of the skinny line across the top that Versus started using last year. The box is just annoying.
18:00 – Brunnstrom is a cute. I’m just sorry that he has to share the ice with Avery. Razor made a comment about how we now have a lot more Swedes than Finns. I like the Swedes, but there’s a reason why I have a huge Finnish flag in my room.
17:36 – Neal and Modano make pretty looking plays together while Crombeen stands there.
16:00 – I really like the name Radek Bonk. He needs a linemate named “Thud”
14:50 – Brunnstrom makes a pretty pass up ice to Richards so Richards and Avery have an awkward little 2 on 1. They don’t score, but Trashville gets a penalty out of it.
13:23 – I really don’t like that Tippett plays forwards on the point during the power play. I think Modano and Richards could do a lot more damage down in front instead of on the point. Plus our defensemen actually know how to skate backwards so that allows us to avoid those embarrassing situations where Richards falls over trying to skate backwards on defense.
13:04 – Loui scores!!! Sadly Brenden knocked the crap out of Ellis so it’s not gonna count.
12:41 – Mikey has a great chance on the penalty kill off a gorgeous pass from neal. I think Mikey’s harnessing some of Neal’s youthful energy because he looks great tonight.
I think they can call more penalties on the Stars. I’m really enjoying this penalty kill. Too bad Hagman isn’t here to score another shorty for us *stares evilly at Hulljack*
10:45 – Razor makes a funny. Arnott and Tony Romo (QB for the Cowboys) are out with the same injury. They’ll both be back in 3 games. That’s about a week for Arnott and 3 weeks for the big bad scary football player.
9:13 – Avery makes a pretty pass back to Daley and then goes in offsides. Maybe he forgot that when you pass the puck backwards, you need to slow down to let the player with the puck in first? Although I understand that may be difficult to grasp if you only have an 8th grade education.
7:14 – I’m so glad James Neal made the team this season. Now I can’t wait for his little brother (Michael) to join in too. I’m convinced that Razor has a man-crush on James Neal because of all the praise he piles on him. I hope he’ll stay with us all this season
6:10 – I really hate Jordin Tootoo. Every time he’s out on the ice, I just want someone to hit him and knock him out for the next month or so.
R&R say that David Legwand plays a lot better with Jason Arnott on the line with him. Apparently he also plays better without a can of beer in the cupholder of his car.
2:27 – Stars fail to score on another power play, but they were pretty dominant. We need to get a goal soon with all this effort.
1:30 – Boucher gets hit by someone. I’m scared that he’s going to break every time he gets hit.
:09 – STARS SCORE!!! Awesome powerplay goal by Robi! He’s gonna get at least 10 goals again this season. Assists by Modano and Ribsy
End of the 1st period 1-0 Stars
19:31 – STARS SCORE AGAIN!! Modano scores on a gorgeous pass from Crombeen and Neal. 2-0 Stars
16:20 – NIsky did a really good job of blocking a shot, and he really looks hurt.
16:04 – Trashville scores on the powerplay. It was more of a 5 on 3.5 since Nisky was pretty gimpy out there.
10:55 – Trashville scores again right off the faceoff. Marty really should have had that one. 2-2
8:15 – BRUNNSTROM SCORES!!!!! I’m so glad that Neal and Brunnstrom got goals in their first games 3-2 Stars!
6:00 – I went to the bathroom and some Trashville guy scored. Lesson of the day – only go to the bathroom during intermissions. Score tied 3-3
5:40 – Brunnstrom scores again!!!! He’s having a great night tonight. My roommate has claimed him as her own. She picked Holmqvist last season, but he’s not with us anymore so she needed someone else to fill that hole. I think Brunnstrom is a better choice. 4-3 Stars
Marty needs to lock it down, and the Stars could score a few more goals.
20:00 – Nisky looks like he reached puberty over the offseason! Either that or he forgot to shave all summer.
18:23 – Stars are on the powerplay and Zanon managed to hit himself in the mouth with the puck. It looked painful. Luckily, it didn’t hit him in the eye or anything.
9:00 – Trashville gets a goal that looks like it MIGHT have gone over the line… I don’t see how they found conclusive proof that the puck went all the way over the line. Game tied 4-4
3:21 – BRUNNSTROM GETS A HAT TRICK IN HIS FIRST NHL GAME!!!!! Take that Brad Richards, and your 5 assists in one game. A hat trick is so much cooler. 5-4 Stars
Looks like he went against what Tippett said when he said this morning that Brunnstrom would never live up to all the hype in his first game.
:03 – Mikey gets an empty net goal for his second goal of the game!!! 6-4 Stars
Game over, Stars win 6-4!
