According to Heika’s blog, Joel Lundqvist will be out the next 4-6 weeks with a fractured scapula. They’re not planning to call anyone up, but hoping that Zubie and Lehtinen will get back in the lineup soon.
The Stars need to win. If they come out and play like they did Thursday, then this is going to be a short series. I know they have the ability to play the Wings competetively and make this series interesting.
Just as in the first two series, we need to stay out of the box in the first period. Some of those calls in Game 1 were pretty suspicious, but the Stars have to play through that. If the refs are going to call dumb penalties on them, they need to figure out how to get the PK going and play through it.
Marty needs to be better. I know he played well on Thursday, and the goals came from screens, odd-man rushes, etc but he needs to be amazing. He’s going to have to take his game to a different level for us to have a chance at winning this series.
Stu is still out tonight. I’m really worried about that “concussion” of his. I know that if he felt “moderately alive” (stole that from my dad) then he’d be playing in the series because we need him on the penalty kill and the line with Modano and Ott. Hopefully he will return in Game 3 or 4 in Dallas.
With all that being said, I think we still have a real shot at this series. BELIEVE!
On a side note, it got up to 100 degrees here today!
Game 1 is tonight guys! For all of you going to the watching party at AAC, have lots of fun for me! I’ll be watching the game while I study for my stats final… doesn’t sound nearly as much fun as being at the AAC.
In other news, Jeffy is out 6 to 8 months with a ruptured ACL, a torn MCL, and a torn meniscus. I didn’t know that much could happen to your knee in one play! I hope he gets well soon, and if he needs anyone to care for him over the summer, my mom and I are completely available 🙂
In other Lightning news, it’s rumored that Tortorella will be headed to Toronto and Barry Melrose will be taking over as coach for the Bolts… I have no idea if these rumors are true, but I hate Barry Melrose with a passion. I’d find it pretty amusing if 3 guys I really cared about weren’t involved with this disaster of a team.
They’re finally playing again! I don’t like this whole waiting 4 days between games thing. I’m glad that the Stars are finally getting a break from their crazy schedule, but I hate going without them for several days.
According to Heika, Richards (flu) and Ribsy (sore elbow) should be in tonight. Also, Nisky should finally be returning from his foot problem. I guess that means Fistric will be a scratch tonight. I really wish they’d scratch Norstrom (since he is the weakest defenseman on the team), but I don’t see that happening. What’s even sadder is that Grossman will probably go back down too when Zubie comes back. If it were me, I’d sit Norstrom and Daley and play with the 3 rookies, Boucher, Zubie, and Robi. I think those would be the best 6 defensemen we could stick out on the ice for the playoffs.
I imagine that Marty will get the start since we haven’t played in a few days and our next game isn’t until Saturday. Tippett could put Holmqvist in for one of the back-to-back Avs games this weekend. He needs to get at least one start before the playoffs.
In other games, the Ducks need to lose to the Blackhawks tonight and Ottawa needs to beat the Guppies. I’d really like a little more breathing room in the division. It seems like those two teams are always right behind us, no matter how well we play.
I have class from 6:30-9:45 tonight, so there won’t be many updates until near the end of the game unless Sarah signs on.
According to Heika’s blog, Ribeiro had some x-rays done on his elbow today. I’m guessing this is from the Tootoo hit in the game. He did leave the ice for a few minutes, but he came back and seemed to be okay. Tippett said that it was just precautionary, but the Stars have already called up Toby Petersen in case Ribeiro can’t play. Looks like he’s having a pretty good season for Iowa (21 goals and 30 assists) so hopefully he can be a help if Ribeiro can’t go.
If Ribeiro doesn’t go on Wednesday, what do you do with the lines? Just slide Petersen in on the top line with Eriksson and Brenden, or try Richards on the top line?
Whatever happens, I hope Ribsy gets well really soon. He’s one guy we can’t afford to lose for the playoffs.
All I can about the 3 games tonight… GO HABS AND SENS!
Ovechkin just scored his 50th goal tonight against the Bruins on a beautiful breakaway. I think it’s possible he’ll get to 60 if he can get out of this goal drought he’s in right now. Well, he now has a hat trick, so I guess the quest for 60 goals this season is still healthy.
My Canadian teams disappointed me tonight. The Sens lost to the Ducks, and it looks like the Habs are gonna lose unless they can score the tying goal in the next few minutes. It would have been nice to not let those two teams each get 2 points tonight. Guy Carbonneau, you disappoint me tonight.
A quick update I just saw…
Boucher has been activated from the injured reserve! Awesome news! Now let’s hope Norstrom will be out of the lineup/traded to somewhere where he can be more useful….
